These scrubbies are made with 3-ply worsted weight hemp yarn from Darn Good Yarn, a company that’s dedicated to using natural and recycled fibers from ethical sources. This particular yarn has been sourced from a co-op in Nepal, and the fiber was grown 100% pesticide free. Hemp is a naturally anti-microbial and mildew resistant fiber, properties that makes it perfect for home use.
The hemp is very durable and softens with time, and will actually benefit from frequent machine washing and drying. The scrubbies will get softer with each wash, becoming more absorbent as they soften. The more they’re used and loved, the better they work! They can also be used as potholders, or as trivets to be used under a hot dish at the table.
Tip: Wet yarn before knitting to soften the fiber, which will be easier on the hands.
