A marriage of linen yarn and linen stitch is a divine union! These placemats will lend an elegant look to your table, and the sturdy linen can withstand years of use. They can even be washed in your washing machine! (Machine drying isn’t recommended for aesthetic reasons, but it’s also perfectly possible.)
The placemats are made with Quince & Co Kestrel, so you can choose from a range of beautiful, subtle colors to match your decor. Linen stitch is just as beautiful on the wrong side as the right side, so carefully weaving in ends will give you two-sided placemats, extending time between washes.
The placemats are knit using two strands of Kestrel held double. Linen stitch is used throughout (excepting the selvedges), and the chosen gauge will produce a lovely yet sturdy fabric suitable for the table. Each placemat is knit in a rectangle, from one long side to the other, with selvedges along either short side.
16 stitches & 40 rows in linen stitch (measured after blocking)
